The Los Angeles Police Department has recently unveiled surveillance footage of a shooting event that transpired last month in Bakersfield, involving an off-duty LAPD officer and an armed individual. The incident occurred on August 24th and involved a member of the LAPD’s Reserve Police Officer Program from North Hollywood.
The surveillance video was captured by a camera situated in front of a residence at the end of a cul-de-sac. The off-duty officer, who resides in Bakersfield, took action by dialing 911 after suspecting a man of potentially burglarizing homes. During the confrontation, the officer remained inside his vehicle while addressing the suspect, who was standing on the sidewalk.
In a tense turn of events, the suspect fired shots at the off-duty officer, who promptly returned fire, as detailed by the Bakersfield Police Department. Upon arrival at the scene, Bakersfield police officers engaged in a shootout with the suspect.
Regrettably, the suspect sustained injuries and succumbed to them at the scene. The individual was later identified as 29-year-old Jason Taylor Boles, a resident of Bakersfield, according to reports from KERO-TV. Law enforcement authorities also recovered a firearm at the location.
During the exchange of gunfire, one of the Bakersfield officers sustained a gunshot wound to the leg. Fortunately, the injury was deemed non-life-threatening, as confirmed in an official news release.
As of August 25th, the Bakersfield Police Department stated, “At this point in the investigation, the Bakersfield Police Department has not identified a victim of a burglary or location of a burglary related to this incident.” Following established protocol, the three Bakersfield officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave while the investigation progresses.
