TYPE OF EVENT: Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Battery with Serious Bodily Injury, Burglary 1st Degree.
LOCATION: Motel 6 -(535 S. China Lake Blvd.)
CHARGES: PC 245(a)(1) – Assault with a Deadly Weapon, PC 243(d) – Battery with Serious Bodily Injury, PC 460(a) – Burglary 1st Degree
SUSPECT: Stephen Matthew Bitz – 19 year old Ridgecrest resident.
On 01/20/18, at about 2155 hours, Officers were dispatched to Motel 6 (535 S. China Lake Blvd) regarding an assault which had just occurred. Upon arrival, Officers found two adult victims who stated Stephen Bitz (19 YOA) had come to the motel believing his girlfriend was inside the room. Bitz forced his way into the room and began fighting with one of the victims. During the fight, Bitz grabbed the victim by the throat and slammed his head into a refrigerator, causing injuries. An additional victim tried to get Bitz off the original victim and received injuries to her hands from Bitz biting her. Bitz then fled the scene prior to Officers arrival. Officer Mixon conducted follow-up and later located Bitz in the 1500 Blk of S. Gateway Av. and arrested him. Bitz is currently being held at the Ridgecrest Police Department Holding Facility awaiting transport to Central Receiving Facility in Bakersfield, Ca. Bitz is being held on $75,000 bail.
