LAPD Launches Manhunt for Hit-and-Run Driver After Cyclist’s Death

A tragic incident unfolded in South Los Angeles as a cyclist lost their life in a hit-and-run collision on a Tuesday morning. The distressing event took place around 9 a.m. at the intersection of 117th Street and Broadway. Shockingly, after the impact, the driver callously continued driving for approximately a mile with the victim entangled beneath the vehicle.

Surveillance footage from Bo’s Mini Market did not capture the exact moment of impact, but it clearly revealed the driver’s heartless actions as they failed to slow down or stop to offer assistance after striking the cyclist.

LAPD Detective Ryan Moreno expressed his disbelief, stating, “It’s difficult to fathom how someone could cover that distance, navigate multiple turns, and remain oblivious to the fact that they hit someone or that a person was trapped under their vehicle.”

The tragic sequence of events began with the collision at 117th Street, after which the driver proceeded south on Broadway, made a right turn onto 120th Street, followed by a left onto Athens Way, then another left onto 124th Street, and finally, a right turn back onto Broadway.

The cyclist’s lifeless body was ultimately discovered at the intersection of El Segundo Boulevard and Broadway in the Athens neighborhood. Regrettably, the victim’s identity remained unknown at that time. Their yellow bicycle, visibly damaged with a detached wheel, lay at the scene. Additionally, the victim’s black Adidas shoes were strewn across the street outside Bo’s Mini Market.

The authorities are actively searching for the suspect, described only as a man driving a white Chevrolet camper van with blue stripes. Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department investigators took measures to shield the victim’s body with a privacy canopy, leading to the closure of the intersection to traffic.

Anyone with pertinent information is strongly encouraged to contact the LAPD, as solving this case and bringing the responsible party to justice is of paramount importance.
