DATE OF EVENT: July 7, 2019
TYPE OF EVENT: Volunteer request
LOCATION: Murray Middle School
Over the last few days hundreds of residents have been forced to evacuate their homes due to structural damage, fire, and gas leaks. Subsequently, the American Red Cross has set up a shelter at the Kerr McGee Center. There are currently more than one hundred residents staying in the shelter. Additionally, reports estimate another five hundred residents displaced from their homes due to the earthquake.
In light of this natural disaster, the city of Ridgecrest has been assisted by some truly amazing aid organizations. One of these organizations, the World Central Kitchen is looking for volunteers to assist them. The WCK is a nonprofit organization that provides food to communities following natural disasters. Yesterday, the WCK was able to provide hundreds of meals for both displaced families as well as first responders.
The WCK plan to continue providing meals and is seeking additional help from volunteers. If you or someone you know would like to volunteer, the WCK is meeting at Murray Middle School today at 0830. They will be there throughout the day preparing meals for displaced families as well as the first responders. The meeting place will be at the Murray kitchen, which is located on the northeast side of the campus. To access the kitchen, volunteers can drive onto the Burroughs High School campus and then turn into the back side of Murray Middle School.
