On 12/28/2019, at about 0005 hours, Ofc. Arnold was on patrol near the 100 block of W. Wilson Ave. While in the area, Ofc. Arnold observed a red, Chrysler minivan traveling westbound. The van drifted toward the edge of the roadway and struck a bicyclist who was also traveling westbound. The vehicle then fled the scene without stopping to render aid.
Ofc. Arnold pursued the vehicle and was able to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle as it pulled into a driveway in the 300 block of W. Haloid Ave. He contacted the driver Brandy Clair and could immediately smell the odor of an alcoholic beverage. Field sobriety tests were conducted and it was determined that Clair was driving her vehicle while intoxicated, without due regard for the safety of the public. According to a preliminary alcohol screening test, Clair’s blood alcohol content was more than double the legal limit. She was arrested without incident.
The bicyclist sustained minor injuries and is expected to make a full recovery.
Clair was transported to the Ridgecrest Police Department where she was booked without incident.
