TYPE OF EVENT: Attempt Murder/Resisting Arrest/Violation of Parole
LOCATION: City of Ridgecrest
SUSPECT: James Bradley, DOB: 11/26/1986
On 05/07/2020, Officers were dispatched to the 200 block of E. La Mirage Ln. regarding 911 call of a physical domestic dispute between a male and his girlfriend. Dispatch then received a call, believing it was related, from a female subject stating she needed help before she disconnected. Dispatch then received a second call from the original reporting party stating they now heard a gunshot coming from the apartment and a female screaming inside. Officers arrived on scene and located James Bradley standing outside in front of the apartment. Several neighbors began yelling, identifying Bradley as the suspect and yelling that Bradley had a gun. Bradley saw Officers and after they began to approach, while giving commands, Bradley ran inside the apartment. Officers could then hear a female screaming inside and made entry into the apartment. Bradley was located inside and resisted arrest when Officers attempted to take him into custody. After an extended fight Officers were finally able to take Bradley safely into custody. While dealing with Bradley Officers noticed he was displaying signs and symptoms of being under the influence of what is believed to be PCP.
During the investigation it was determined that the incident began when Bradley was acting erratic and went outside in front of the apartment. Due to Bradley’s behavior a neighbor tried to check on his welfare. When the neighbor approached Bradley, Bradley tried to assault the neighbor. Bradley then ran inside the apartment and retrieved a firearm. Bradley shot out of the apartment where the neighbor had been standing moments earlier. During the incident Bradley’s girlfriend and her two small children were inside the apartment.
Officers were able to recover the loaded firearm on scene, which ended up being a stolen firearm, along with additional ammunition. Officers also seized suspected PCP inside the apartment.
Bradley is currently on Parole and not allowed to possess ammunition or firearms, regardless of if they are stolen.
Bradley was booked at the Central Receiving Facility in Bakersfield, CA for the above charges. Bradley is currently being held there on $1,500,000.00 bail.
