EL CAJON, Calif — An East County woman recently marked her 106th birthday, and she shared some insights into the reasons she believes she has lived so long.
Ann Strutz, a resident of Chula Vista, remains remarkably active and healthy, according to her family. Despite living alone, she manages to cook for herself, thanks to the support of San Diego County’s Meals on Wheels program.
This program aims to empower seniors like Ann to maintain their independence while ensuring they have access to nourishing meals, benefiting their bodies, minds, and spirits.
Ann has been a client of Meals on Wheels since December 2021, and she is among the few seniors in the nonprofit organization to reach the impressive milestone of turning 106.
On her birthday morning, Meals on Wheels volunteers surprised Ann with a special delivery. They arrived with balloons and a beautiful orchid plant, presenting her with a gift basket to celebrate her remarkable life.
When asked about the secret to her longevity, Ann credited nutritious food as a significant factor, which Meals on Wheels continues to provide for her. She expressed her appreciation for the program’s volunteers, who always greet her with welcoming smiles, even in challenging weather conditions.
Ann also attributed her long life to her faith, believing that God has a plan for her to stick around for a reason.
For those interested in contributing to the county’s Meals on Wheels program, there is an opportunity to volunteer by filling out an application online. More information on how to support San Diego’s seniors can be found on their website.
“We look forward to having you come,” said Ann with gratitude, welcoming potential volunteers to join the cause.
