14-Year-Old Arrested in Bakersfield Car Chase Incident

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — An officer who was involved in a car chase resulting in a collision in South Bakersfield on Wednesday has been released from the hospital after receiving treatment.

According to a statement from the Bakersfield Police Department, the incident occurred around 1:06 a.m. on Wednesday in the 1200 block of Evadonna Road. The police received a report regarding a possible auto theft.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered two occupied stolen Kia vehicles in the vicinity of Houghton Road and South Union Avenue. When the officers attempted to stop the vehicles, they failed to comply and a pursuit ensued.

During the chase, the BPD officer collided with an orchard, sustaining a non-life-threatening injury. The officer was taken to a hospital and later released in stable condition on Wednesday afternoon.

One of the stolen vehicles was driven by a 14-year-old male who has been arrested and is currently held at the Kern County Jail.

He is facing charges including assault with a deadly weapon, multiple counts of auto theft, felony evading, conspiracy, and other related offenses.

The BPD is actively searching for four other male and female juvenile suspects who fled the scene.
