3rd eaglet continues to break out of shell in Big Bear

The wait continues for the third eaglet of Jackie and Shadow, though the baby bird is making some progress.

The pip, a crack in the shell created by the young bird inside trying to make its way out, has grown bigger, footage from the eagles’ nest shows.

The pip was first spotted on Thursday, according to Sandy Steers, executive director of Friends of Big Bear Valley.

Once the eaglet is out of the shell — that process can take 24 to 48 hours, according to the Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy — it will join its two siblings.

Jackie and Shadow are already feeding those two eaglets and keeping them and the egg warm amid the snow.
