California authorities are appealing to the public for assistance in resolving the murder case of a New Jersey woman whose dismembered remains were discovered in a suitcase in San Diego Bay half a century ago.
The victim, identified as Arminda Grangela Rodrigues da Silva Ribeiro, was 29 years old when she was tragically killed in 1973. Her body, gruesomely dismembered, was stumbled upon by fishermen in the waters of San Diego Bay.
This recent update marks the first time that law enforcement has publicly disclosed the victim’s name, a crucial step in raising awareness about this long-standing cold case. Ribeiro remained unidentified for decades, with her remains concealed within an orange suitcase and plastic bags. It wasn’t until 2020, when the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office exhumed her remains and utilized DNA analysis, that her identity was finally unveiled.
Ribeiro originally hailed from Portugal but had immigrated to Newark, New Jersey, where she still has family members. At the time of her disappearance, she was married and had two children. Her occupation was at a trailer fabrication company in Newark.
The authorities are diligently working to establish the connection between Ribeiro and San Diego, while simultaneously endeavoring to identify the specific company she worked for in Newark. They are counting on the public’s assistance to unearth fresh leads.
