The Social Security Administration (SSA) of the United States is nearing the conclusion of its February benefit payout schedule. In the United States, who receives Social Security benefits?
SSA has been busy paying survivors’ payouts, retired workers, handicapped workers, and those receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits throughout February.
Who has not received payment as of February 2025?
The majority of February’s payments for the aforementioned programs have now been made by the SSA; on Wednesday, February 19, it most recently issued retirement, disability, and survivors’ checks.
By the end of this month, a few more rounds of checks must be distributed, nevertheless.
The first will be paid on Wednesday, February 26, which is also the day when the last payment of retirement, disability, and survivors’ benefits for February is due.
The SSI payments for the following month are thus expected to be issued by the government on Friday, February 28, a little earlier than usual.
Why is the SSI payment for March being made early?
SSI recipients typically receive their payments on the first of each month. However, if the month starts on a weekend or holiday, that payment date is moved forward.
Since March 1st falls on a Saturday, the SSA will distribute the SSI benefits for the next month on February 28th, the closest working day to the start of the month.
Since February 1 was a weekend as well, checks for this month were also paid early on January 31.
Beginning on a working day, Tuesday, April 1, the SSA will resume its usual SSI payment schedule for the month of April.
In 2025, how much will SSI users receive?
With this year’s cost-of-living adjustment (COLA), the maximum monthly amount awarded to an individual SSI beneficiary has increased to $967 in 2025.
In addition to payments of up to $484 per month for qualified essential persons, eligible couples on SSI benefits now receive a joint check of up to $1,450 per month.
Who can receive benefits from SSI?
SSI is a program that aims to assist those who have a handicap, are over 65, or have little or no income. It differs from other Social Security benefits programs in that it is needs-based rather than contribution-based.
Nearly 7.4 million Americans received benefits under the SSI program as of January 2025.

When do other people who receive Social Security receive their benefits?
Under a staggered payment system, where a recipient’s benefits date is determined by their date of birth, checks for the majority of non-SSI beneficiaries have been sent out on one of three Wednesdays in February.
As previously mentioned, as part of the following timeline, one set of Wednesday payments is still due this month:

Some long-term Social Security recipients are exempt from the above schedule.
Survivors’ pay recipients, disabled workers, and retired workers who began receiving benefits prior to May 1997 are always paid on the third day of the month, regardless of the day of their birthday.
