Idaho Winter Weather Alert: Up to 20 Inches of Snow Expected Through Monday Morning

Pocatello, ID – A winter weather advisory is in effect for parts of central and eastern Idaho, bringing heavy snow and strong winds to higher elevations through Monday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Pocatello, snowfall will impact the Big Hole Mountains, the Sawtooth/Stanley Basin, and the Sun Valley region. Snow accumulation is expected to range from 8 to 12 inches above 7,000 feet in the Big Hole Mountains, with locally higher amounts over passes. In the Sun Valley and Stanley areas, totals could reach up to 20 inches at higher elevations. Winds may gust as high as 40 mph.

Road conditions are expected to deteriorate, especially over Pine Creek Pass and Galena Summit. The advisory remains in effect until 11 a.m. MST Monday, with hazardous travel conditions likely to impact weekend travelers and the Monday morning commute.
