Wayne County, IN – A fatal crash on Interstate 70 shut down eastbound lanes for several hours as authorities investigated.
At 8:53 p.m. on February 22, Wayne County Emergency Communications received a report of a single-vehicle crash near the 149-mile marker. Deputies arrived to find a 2007 Toyota Corolla crashed in the median against a cable barrier.
Authorities identified the driver as Cedric Wolter, 28, of Greens Fork, Indiana. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Eastbound I-70 closed at the Centerville Road exit (145-mile marker) for three hours while investigators processed the scene. The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Unit and Crime Scene Technicians handled the investigation.
Multiple agencies assisted, including Indiana State Police, Richmond Police, the Richmond Fire Department, and the Wayne County Coroner’s Office.
Officials continue investigating the crash and will provide updates as more information becomes available.
