Disney shares details about ‘Cars’ attraction, Monster Inc. land coming to Walt Disney World
Walt Disney World is set to expand its lineup of attractions and experiences with new themed areas based on Pixar Animation Studios’ “Cars” and “Monsters, Inc.”
The Future of World-Building at Disney panel, Disney executives shared more information about the new additions.
Here’s what fans could look forward to.
“Cars” Themed Land Coming to Magic Kingdom

The new land coming to Magic Kingdom will take guests beyond Radiator Springs as Lightning McQueen, Mater and friends venture into an off-road frontier.
During the panel, Pixar Chief Creative Officer Pete Docter and Walt Disney Imagineer Michael Hundgen revealed details about the attraction’s unique ride system.
“For this Cars attraction, we need to invent a new type of ride vehicle,” Hundgen said. “No one builds these in a factory because it has to do so much more than just carry you from one place to another. We have to create a car that conveys a feeling when you ride in it.”
Imagineers visited the Arizona desert for research, testing real off-road vehicles to replicate the sensation of driving on rocky terrain. The team partnered with a motocross company to construct a dirt track to gather data on vehicle movement, which will inform the ride’s design.
Docter shared early concept sketches, revealing that each ride vehicle will have a distinct name and number, resembling real race cars.
“Monsters, Inc.” Land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Monstropolis, the fictional land home to Mike and Sully from Monsters, Inc., will soon be brought to life at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
According to Disney, the land will feature a marquee attraction based on the “Monsters, Inc.” door vault, incorporating the first-ever suspended roller coaster at a Disney park and a vertical lift element.
An animated preview of the ride shown during the panel showcased the ride’s loading area, where guests will be lifted into the air before racing through the iconic door vault.
During the same panel, Disney executives and Robert Downey Jr. shared what new additions are coming to Disneyland Resort, including two new attractions coming to Avengers Campus.
