Northern Arizona Braces for Heavy Snow and 45 MPH Winds—travel Disruptions Expected

Northern Arizona is prepared for a major winter storm, with heavy snowfall and high winds predicted to disrupt travel and daily life from Wednesday to Friday. Multiple weather alerts have been issued for the area, including Winter Weather Advisories and a Winter Storm Watch.

According to the Flagstaff National Weather Service, a Winter Weather Advisory is in force from midnight Wednesday to 11 a.m. MST for regions above 7,000 feet, including the White Mountains, Mogollon Rim, and Flagstaff.

Snow accumulations are forecast to range from 2 to 7 inches, with local amounts reaching 10 inches at higher elevations.

A more severe Winter Storm Watch is scheduled to begin Thursday afternoon and linger until late Thursday night, affecting regions above 6,000 feet.

Snowfall amounts in the Mogollon Rim could range from 8 to 15 inches, while the Kaibab Plateau might receive up to one foot. Winds can gust up to 45 mph, resulting in blowing snow and hazardous driving conditions.

Travelers are advised to use great caution, as roads, particularly bridges and overpasses, may become slick and dangerous. Officials urge postponing travel if possible. Those who must travel should pack a winter survival kit with tire chains, blankets, and emergency supplies.
