LAPD searching for suspect after report of kidnapping, carjacking

Officers with the Los Angeles Police Department are searching for a suspect after they received two calls regarding a kidnapping and a carjacking.

An LAPD spokesperson told KTLA that two incidents were reported early Tuesday morning. The first occurred around 1:30 a.m. and involved a caller in the Mid-City neighborhood.

First responders transported the victim, a man, to a nearby hospital with complaints of pain. He told officers that the suspect was armed, and preliminary investigation into the call indicated that the man’s car appeared to have been stolen.

The police spokesperson said an officer spotted a vehicle matching the description of the man’s car and initiated a short pursuit. Around 2 a.m., a second call came in that involved the chase and an alleged kidnapping suspect.

The suspect, only described as a man, stopped the car in the 1700 block of Hauser Boulevard and fled into an apartment complex.

Video from the scene showed officers canvassing the area for the suspect while an LAPD airship circled overhead.

The stretch of Hauser near the apartment building where the suspect ran into was blocked off.

He remained outstanding as of 5:45 a.m., and unconfirmed reports indicated he was still on the loose at 7 a.m.
