T-Town Cafe Says Goodbye to Tuscaloosa After 13 Successful Years

The doors of a café that has been a pillar of Tuscaloosa’s dining scene for more than a decade are about to close, and the proprietors are getting ready to move on to the next phase of their lives.

On Monday, the T-Town Café, which has been a fixture at Parkview Plaza, which is located off Hackberry Lane, since 2012, made the formal announcement that it would be closing down.

A partnership between the restaurant’s two proprietors, David Ryan and Jamey Graham, resulted in the establishment of a restaurant that is well-known for providing traditional Southern diner-style cuisine such as hamburgers, catfish, and biscuits with gravy.

The building, which had been occupied by a restaurant known as Bottomfeeders in the past, had been turned by the two individuals into a well-liked cafe in the neighborhood.

As part of their statement, the proprietors disclosed that the café is currently available for purchase. This presents an opportunity for a new owner to take control of the establishment and bring their vision to fruition.

“It is with great disappointment that I must share with you that T-Town Cafe is permanently closed,” according to a post on the business’ Facebook page. “It’s been a privilege to serve our customers and be the kind of place so many of you enjoyed coming to for meals. We tried everything we could to stay open, but the challenges have become too much to overcome.”

Parkview Plaza has suffered a number of important losses in recent years, including the departure of several long-standing businesses. The closure of T-Town Café is another significant loss for the facility.

Additionally, Oz Music, a music store that had been a component of the strip mall since 1989, relocated out of the strip mall just the year before.

“Someone that starts with a decent amount of money will be able to continue to grow this. I just ran out of working capital,” according the post. “So I would love to see someone continue to keep it alive. It’s been there since 2012 or if someone just needs to buy a shell for another concept.”
