Atlanta, GA – An extreme cold warning remains in effect for portions of north, central, and northwest Georgia from 1 a.m. to noon Monday. Residents are urged to prepare for dangerously low wind chills as temperatures could feel as cold as -4°F.

According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, the cold snap will impact cities including Atlanta, Gainesville, Rome, and Carrollton. Freezing temperatures could persist long enough to rupture water pipes, especially in exposed or poorly insulated areas.

Authorities recommend taking precautions to prevent damage and ensure safety. Residents should wrap or drain pipes, allow faucets to drip, and avoid using outdoor sprinklers. Properly ventilate spaces if using portable heaters, and avoid using grills or generators indoors.

Pets should be brought indoors, and frequent checks on vulnerable neighbors, friends, and family are advised. Wearing multiple layers, including hats, gloves, and face coverings, is crucial for those venturing outside.

This weather event highlights the importance of preparation for extreme cold. Temperatures are expected to begin moderating Monday afternoon. For updates, follow the National Weather Service or local authorities.
