Photos: Hughes Fire ignites, expands rapidly across Southern California mountainside
A brush fire broke out near Castaic Wednesday morning, quickly scorching hundreds of acres.
According to CalFire, the Hughes Fire was reported near Lake Hughes and the road of the same name at 10:53 a.m.
Less than an hour after the blaze was reported, it had already burned over 500 acres, preliminary information indicates.
Photos from the ground, air and mountainside cameras captured incredibly thick smoke rising over the Castaic area late Wednesday morning.
The Hughes Fire erupted as crews began their final efforts to extinguish the devastating and deadly Palisades and Eaton fires, which both broke out earlier this month.
