Illinois Weather This Week: Warm Start, Midweek Storms, and Freezing Rain Risk

Champaign, IL – February kicks off with unseasonably warm weather in central Illinois, but a midweek storm could bring freezing rain and thunderstorms. Monday will see highs near 60°F before temperatures drop, increasing the risk of wintry precipitation by Tuesday night.
According to the National Weather Service, Monday will be partly sunny with a high near 61°F. However, by Tuesday night, temperatures will fall to around 30°F, bringing a 20% chance of freezing rain. Wednesday’s forecast shows a 70% chance of rain, possibly mixed with freezing rain in the morning, followed by steady rainfall throughout the day.
Drivers should prepare for potentially slick conditions on major roads, including I-74 and I-57, particularly on Wednesday morning. Visibility may also be reduced due to fog overnight into Sunday morning.
By Thursday, temperatures will recover slightly, reaching highs in the low 40s, with drier conditions expected. Friday rounds out the week with partly cloudy skies and highs near 39°F.
