Prairie City, OR – A powerful winter storm is bringing heavy snowfall to the Ochoco-John Day Highlands, with up to 8 inches expected through Wednesday morning. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning in effect until 10 a.m. PST Wednesday, warning residents of hazardous travel conditions.
According to the National Weather Service in Pendleton, snow will arrive in two waves, the first occurring Monday night and the second hitting late Tuesday morning into early Wednesday. Accumulations of 4 to 8 inches are expected across the region, including cities like Prairie City, Brothers, Paulina, and Seneca.
Motorists are advised to avoid travel if possible, as low visibility and slick roads will make driving hazardous. If travel is necessary, authorities recommend carrying a winter storm kit, including blankets, tire chains, flashlights, and extra clothing.
Residents should also be prepared for potential power outages and downed trees due to heavy snowfall. Anyone experiencing outages should report them to their local electric company.
This storm could significantly disrupt daily activities, so residents are encouraged to stay informed and take necessary precautions until conditions improve.
