Irvine Police seek man accused of using selfie stick to peer into young girl’s room

Police are seeking the public’s help in identifying a man caught on video allegedly using a selfie stick to peer into a young girl’s bedroom in Irvine.

According to the Ring footage that the Irvine Police Department released on Wednesday, the video was taken on Oct. 16, 2024, and police said the home is located on Gulfstream Street.

“We would like to speak with this man who is suspected of using an expandable pole (selfie stick) and cell phone to look into a female juvenile’s bedroom,” the Irvine Police Department said in a Facebook post on Feb. 5.

In the video provided to KTLA, the man appears to be wearing black glasses, a black and white Adidas jacket, a black shirt, either black or navy Adidas pants, and black sneakers.

The footage shows the unidentified man lifting the selfie stick – with a phone attached – above the ceiling line, pulling it down, glancing at the footage, and repeating this at least one more time before he seemingly walks away.

Details are limited, but in the comments of the #WantedWednesday Facebook post, Irvine Police said it was the resident’s camera that captured the man.

“They do not know him, which is why we want to talk to him,” the department said in a reply to a comment by someone who was wondering if he had just been taking pictures of the rain gutters.

Irvine Police asks if anyone believes they can be of assistance in this case, to please get in touch with cvoors@cityofirvine.org.
