Columbus, OH – Freezing rain continues to impact central and west-central Ohio early Thursday, creating hazardous travel conditions across several counties. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory in effect until 7 a.m. EST for cities including Columbus, Springfield, Delaware, and Dayton suburbs.
According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, freezing rain has left a thin layer of ice on roads, sidewalks, and bridges. Additional ice accumulation of around a glaze is expected before precipitation tapers off later this morning.
Motorists should prepare for slick roads and reduced traction, particularly during the Thursday morning commute. Authorities urge drivers to slow down, increase following distances, and allow extra travel time. Pedestrians should use caution on untreated sidewalks and driveways to avoid slips and falls.
Affected areas include Hardin, Mercer, Auglaize, Darke, Shelby, Logan, Union, Delaware, Miami, Champaign, Clark, Madison, Franklin, Licking, and Fairfield counties. Road conditions can be monitored through OHGO.com for real-time updates.
Temperatures are expected to rise above freezing later today, improving conditions. However, black ice may linger in shaded areas and overpasses. Travelers should remain vigilant until conditions fully improve.
