Ice-Covered Roads Continue to Impact Commuters in Ohio & West Virginia

Charleston, WV – Although the Winter Weather Advisory has expired, icy conditions remain a hazard for morning commuters in parts of Ohio and West Virginia on Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Charleston, freezing rain overnight left slick roads, especially on bridges and overpasses in Perry and Morgan counties in Ohio and Southeast Randolph County in West Virginia. While no additional precipitation is expected, untreated surfaces may still pose a risk for drivers.

Officials warn that patchy ice could cause travel delays during the morning commute, with tree damage and power outages still possible from previous ice accumulation. Wind gusts up to 35 mph may also lead to falling branches or debris.

Drivers are urged to use caution, reduce speed, and allow extra time for travel. For the latest road conditions, call 511 or check state transportation websites.
