Kankakee County Schools Delayed Two Hours Due to Icy Conditions

Kankakee County, IL – Several schools across Kankakee County, including Bourbonnais, Manteno, Bradley-Bourbonnais, and Bishop McNamara Catholic School, have announced delayed start times Thursday due to hazardous icy conditions on roads and sidewalks.

According to official announcements, Bourbonnais Elementary School District #53 and Manteno Schools will operate on a two-hour delay, meaning students who take the bus will be picked up two hours later than usual, and school will begin accordingly. Bourbonnais Elementary also stated that there will be no half-day Pre-K classes.

Bradley-Bourbonnais Community High School (BBCHS) has also implemented a two-hour delay, with the school day starting at 10:00 a.m.. Advisory classes, known as Boiler Block, will begin the day, and the career center will operate as usual. BBCHS has also canceled zero-hour classes for the day.

Meanwhile, Bishop McNamara Catholic School has opted for a one-hour delay, with classes beginning at 9:00 a.m.. School officials urged parents and students to take their time and prioritize safety while traveling.

The Manteno Police Department issued a warning about extremely slick untreated surfaces, including roads, driveways, and sidewalks. Authorities are advising both drivers and pedestrians to exercise extreme caution when traveling Thursday morning.

School officials will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates on any additional schedule changes. Parents are encouraged to check their school’s official communication channels for further details regarding after-school activities and transportation.
