Buffalo, NY – A winter weather advisory is in effect for much of western and northern New York, with snow, ice, and strong winds expected to impact travel through early Thursday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, the advisory covers Niagara, Orleans, Erie, Genesee, Monroe, Wayne, Cayuga, Oswego, Jefferson, Lewis, and several other counties. Snow accumulations could reach up to 7 inches in some areas, with blowing snow reducing visibility. Ice accumulations up to one-tenth of an inch are also expected.

Wind gusts as high as 45 mph are forecast, particularly along the Lake Erie shoreline and in Jefferson and Lewis counties. These conditions will make travel hazardous, especially during the Wednesday evening commute and into early Thursday.

Drivers should prepare for slippery roads, blowing snow, and limited visibility. The National Weather Service urges motorists to slow down, use caution, and allow extra time for travel.

The advisory remains in effect until 4 a.m. Thursday for most areas, with Jefferson and Lewis counties under the alert until 7 p.m. Thursday. Residents can report snow and ice conditions through the National Weather Service’s website or social media.
