Winter Weather Advisory: Snow, Ice to Make Roads Hazardous in Detroit, Ann Arbor, and Mid-Michigan

Detroit, MI – A winter weather advisory is in effect for much of Southeast Michigan from 1 p.m. Wednesday to 7 a.m. Thursday, bringing a mix of snow and ice that could cause hazardous travel conditions.

According to the National Weather Service, snowfall totals will range from 2 to 6 inches across different regions, with areas south of I-94, including Detroit, Ann Arbor, and Monroe, at risk for freezing rain accumulation of up to a tenth of an inch. Areas further north, such as Saginaw, Midland, and Bay City, are expected to receive between 4 and 6 inches of snow, with peak snowfall rates exceeding half an inch per hour between 4 p.m. and 11 p.m.

Livingston and Shiawassee counties will also see similar snowfall amounts, with occasional bursts nearing an inch per hour in the late evening. The winter storm is expected to create treacherous road conditions, particularly during the Wednesday evening and Thursday morning commutes.

Drivers are urged to slow down and use caution while traveling. The Michigan Department of Transportation advises checking the MDOT Michigan Drive Map for real-time road updates.
