Des Moines, IA – A winter storm is bringing significant snowfall, strong winds, and dangerously cold temperatures across Iowa through Thursday morning. Commuters should prepare for snow-covered roads and low visibility, especially on Wednesday morning.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Des Moines, snowfall will begin late Tuesday and continue throughout Wednesday, moving from southwest to northeast. Snow will taper off Wednesday evening, with final flurries ending by early Thursday. Winds will pick up in the afternoon, reaching 10–15 mph, with gusts up to 25 mph, causing blowing snow and hazardous travel conditions.

Wind chills will drop to as low as -25°F in northern Iowa by late Wednesday night. Residents should take precautions while shoveling snow, as extreme cold increases the risk of frostbite. Dry conditions are expected on Thursday, providing a window for cleanup.
