Idaho Winter Weather Alert: Up to 10 Inches of Snow, Strong Winds Until Friday

Boise, ID – A winter weather advisory remains in effect for parts of southwest Idaho, with significant snowfall and strong winds expected through Friday morning.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Boise, the advisory covers the Boise Mountains, West Central Mountains, and Southwest Highlands. Mountain areas, including McCall and Cascade, could see between 6 and 10 inches of snow, while lower elevations such as the Southwest Highlands may receive 2 to 4 inches. Winds could gust up to 35 mph in exposed areas, leading to blowing and drifting snow.

The advisory remains in effect until 11 a.m. MST Friday, with hazardous travel conditions expected. Snow-covered roads and reduced visibility may cause delays, particularly in areas like Idaho City, Lowman, and Garden Valley. Drivers are urged to slow down and exercise caution.

The Idaho Transportation Department advises checking road conditions before traveling by calling 511 or visiting their website. Residents should prepare for winter driving conditions and allow extra time for travel.

This winter storm follows a season of fluctuating temperatures, bringing fresh snowfall to higher elevations. Travelers in affected areas should remain alert for changing conditions through Friday morning.
