Charleston, SC – Strong storms are expected to impact South Carolina today, with damaging winds and a tornado risk. The main threat is south of Interstate 16.
According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, a band of showers and embedded thunderstorms will move through the region between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Some storms could become severe.
Forecasters warn of strong wind gusts capable of downing trees and power lines. A tornado cannot be ruled out in the most affected areas. Counties near Savannah and Hinesville face the highest threat.
Residents should stay alert and have multiple ways to receive weather warnings. Officials advise securing outdoor objects and preparing for possible power outages.
If severe weather approaches, move to an interior room away from windows. Monitor updates from the National Weather Service for the latest alerts.
Storms are expected to weaken as they move offshore in the afternoon.
