Huntsville, AL – An Extreme Cold Warning and Cold Weather Advisory will take effect at 9 p.m. Sunday, lasting through noon Monday. Wind chills are expected to plummet to between -10°F and 5°F across northern Alabama and the Tennessee Valley.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Huntsville, dangerous cold air will persist into the midweek, with nighttime lows dipping into single digits. Wind chills could remain below zero into Tuesday morning. Local counties, including DeKalb, Marshall, Morgan, and Cullman, are expected to experience the harshest impacts.

The NWS advises residents to minimize time outdoors, dress in layers, and ensure the safety of vulnerable individuals, pets, pipes, and plants. Power outages remain a possibility due to extreme temperatures.

By midweek, temperatures will slightly recover but remain cold, with highs in the 30s and 40s.

For safety, keep pets indoors, insulate exposed pipes, and use cabinets to circulate warm air. Disconnect garden hoses and cover plants. For additional cold-weather preparation tips, visit weather.gov/safety/cold.
