Ambulance Flips After Colliding With Tractor-trailer in Virginia, 3 Injured

ACCOMACK COUNTY, Va. – An ambulance and a tractor-trailer collided on Tuesday, resulting in three injuries, according to Virginia State Police.

According to Virginia State Police, the Bloxom ambulance, which had emergency equipment activated and a patient inside, attempted to maneuver around a halted Perdue Farms tractor-trailer while on its way to the hospital.

The driver of the ambulance then collided with the tractor-trailer, flipping the ambulance over.

According to Virginia State Police, Jerry Kellam Sr., the ambulance’s driver, and his wife April Kellam, the passenger, were both transferred to TidalHealth in Maryland.

According to Virginia State Police, Jerry Kellam Jr. and Amanda Bare, the patient in the ambulance, were both airlifted to Norfolk General Hospital after the incident. Benjamin Smithwick, the tractor-trailer driver, did not sustain any injuries.

Charges are still pending, according to Virginia State Police.
