Paducah, KY – A wave of Arctic air will plunge temperatures across Kentucky starting Sunday and lasting through Wednesday. Residents should prepare for life-threatening wind chills as low as -10°F, particularly on Monday and Tuesday mornings.

According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, the coldest period will span from Sunday through Wednesday morning. Daytime wind chill values will range between single digits and teens, with overnight lows dipping into the sub-zero range.

Monday and Tuesday will bring the most extreme conditions, with air temperatures in the single digits. Highs are expected to stay in the 10s and 20s, leaving the region under hazardous conditions. Organizations are urged to provide warming shelters for unhoused populations during this time.

Authorities are warning residents to limit outdoor exposure and bundle up when venturing outside. Frostbite can occur in minutes under these extreme conditions. Homeowners are also encouraged to safeguard plumbing by insulating pipes and letting faucets drip to prevent freezing.

Temperatures are forecast to begin moderating by Thursday as the Arctic front shifts out of the region. Until then, residents should remain vigilant and prepared for extended periods of dangerous cold.
