Flagstaff, AZ – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Flagstaff has issued a Red Flag Warning for Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. due to strong winds and low relative humidity, significantly increasing the risk of wildfires.
According to the NWS, the warning affects areas including Flagstaff, Show Low, Winslow, Williams, and the White Mountains. Winds are forecast to reach 15-25 mph, with gusts up to 40 mph, and relative humidity is expected to drop as low as 5-10%. Affected regions include portions of the Apache-Sitgreaves, Coconino, Kaibab, Prescott, and Tonto National Forests.
The NWS cautions that the combination of gusty winds and dry conditions can lead to rapid fire growth, complicating efforts for first responders. Residents are advised to avoid activities that could spark fires, such as target shooting, yard work, or campfires. Local fire restrictions remain in place, and officials urge residents to check for updates at weather.gov/flagstaff.
The weather pattern is expected to change next week, bringing cooler temperatures and possible rain and snow beginning Monday, though fire risks remain high through Saturday.
