Gassville, AR – Authorities are investigating a fatal shooting that left a Gassville man dead Monday afternoon.
Ian Lapio, 32, was found with apparent gunshot wounds on Mountain Loop Road, according to the Gassville Police Department (GPD). Officers responded to the scene and transported Lapio to Baxter Regional Medical Center in Mountain Home, where he later died. The Baxter County Coroner pronounced him dead at approximately 2:30 p.m.
The Arkansas State Police (ASP) Criminal Investigation Division (CID) has taken over the case at the request of GPD. Witness accounts suggest that an altercation between the two men occurred prior to the shooting.
Special agents with the ASP CID will compile a casefile to present to the 14th Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney, who will determine if criminal charges will be filed.
Lapio’s body is being transferred to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory for an autopsy to determine the official cause and manner of death. The investigation remains ongoing.
