Sacramento, CA – Northern California is set to experience several days of excessive rainfall as an atmospheric river continues through early next week, bringing significant flooding concerns, mudslides, and debris flows.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), rainfall totals of 4 to 7 inches are expected in much of Northern California, while the Sierra Nevada could see between 10 and 15 inches through Tuesday, February 4. The heaviest rain is expected in areas along the coast and foothills, with a slight to moderate flood risk in regions already saturated from previous storms.

The Weather Prediction Center has placed Northern California under a Slight Risk of excessive rainfall from Saturday through Monday, with some areas near Redding and Sacramento seeing an increased chance of flash flooding. Rivers and streams are expected to rise rapidly, potentially leading to road closures and hazardous travel conditions.

Residents in flood-prone areas should prepare for potential evacuations and stay updated with local emergency alerts. Officials advise avoiding travel in high-risk areas and securing outdoor property. The storm is expected to taper off by Tuesday morning, but residual flooding may persist.
