Pendleton, OR – Freezing fog continues to blanket parts of northern Oregon, posing visibility and driving hazards on major roads, including Interstate 84 and Highways 97 and 197. Commuters should take precautions, as dense fog reduces visibility to less than a quarter mile in some areas.

According to the National Weather Service, a freezing fog advisory remains in effect until noon Thursday. Conditions are expected to persist across the Lower Columbia Basin, Blue Mountain foothills, and surrounding areas. Drivers should avoid using cruise control, use low-beam headlights, and maintain a safe following distance. Black ice is also a concern on slick roadways.

Temperatures in Pendleton are expected to reach a high of 39°F today, with patchy fog lingering into the evening as temperatures drop to 27°F. On Thursday, sunny skies will emerge, warming to 50°F, though freezing fog may develop again Thursday night.

The extended forecast shows calmer conditions this weekend, with mostly sunny skies and daytime highs in the mid-30s. Nighttime lows will hover around 20°F, making frost a continued risk during morning commutes.

Travelers are advised to check road conditions before heading out and allow extra time for delays. Weather-related road incidents often spike during dense fog events.
