Boston, MA – Frigid temperatures are gripping New England this week, with colder-than-normal conditions expected to persist into Thursday. Forecasters are now monitoring what could be the coldest air of the season early next week.
According to the National Weather Service in Boston, temperatures will briefly moderate between Friday and Saturday. Forecast highs will climb to seasonable levels, reaching the low to mid-40s by Saturday afternoon. However, the reprieve will be short-lived as a significant cold front approaches by Monday.
The temperature forecast shows much of Massachusetts, including Boston, dipping into the teens and 20s overnight this week. Early Wednesday, Worcester recorded lows near 14 degrees, with similar conditions predicted for Thursday. By next week, single-digit lows could return, particularly inland, with subzero wind chills likely.
Meteorologists advise residents to prepare for hazardous conditions caused by extreme cold. Prolonged exposure may result in frostbite or hypothermia. Ensure pipes are insulated, and pets are brought indoors. Check on vulnerable neighbors during the coldest nights.
Despite the chill, milder air will arrive briefly before next week’s expected Arctic outbreak. The National Weather Service emphasizes staying updated with the latest forecasts as weather conditions evolve.
For now, residents are urged to bundle up and limit outdoor activities during the coldest parts of the day.
