California Weather Alert: High Wind Gusts Expected Friday Near Mojave Desert, Eastern Kern County

Hanford, CA – Residents of eastern Kern County are urged to prepare for gusty conditions Friday, with wind speeds reaching 40 mph or higher. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a wind advisory for areas near the Mojave Desert, warning of heightened risks for drivers and outdoor activities.
According to the NWS, the advisory is in effect Friday afternoon, with the strongest gusts expected along slopes and open roadways such as Highway 58. Motorists traveling through this region should exercise caution, especially if driving high-profile vehicles. Secure outdoor items and avoid burning debris during windy periods to prevent fire hazards.
Looking ahead, temperatures will remain mild, with highs near 62°F on Friday and lows around 36°F at night. Sunny skies will persist through the weekend, but patchy frost is expected overnight. Saturday and Sunday will see highs near 59°F and 58°F, respectively, under mostly clear skies. By Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, temperatures will rise slightly to 57°F with calm winds.
For safety, limit outdoor activities during high winds and monitor updates from the National Weather Service. Those near the Mojave Desert should remain alert for changing conditions.
