Melbourne, FL – Residents in East Central Florida are urged to prepare for freezing temperatures overnight as a freeze warning remains in effect for Lake and Inland Volusia counties. Temperatures are expected to drop as low as 30 to 32 degrees between 2 a.m. and 8 a.m. Saturday, posing risks to sensitive plants, pets, and outdoor plumbing.

According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, clear skies will accelerate cooling tonight, increasing the likelihood of frost. Officials recommend covering plants, bringing pets indoors, and insulating exposed pipes. While daytime highs Friday only reached the mid-50s, conditions are forecast to improve slightly on Saturday, with sunny skies and highs near 64 degrees.

The cold spell marks a significant drop for the region, but relief is on the way. Sunday is expected to bring mostly sunny skies and highs near 68 degrees, with temperatures climbing into the low 70s by early next week. Nights, however, will remain chilly through Monday, with lows in the 40s to mid-50s.

Drivers along I-4 and surrounding roadways should remain cautious, as frost could reduce visibility and create slippery conditions. Farmers in rural areas should take additional precautions to safeguard crops vulnerable to frost damage.

This weekend’s warming trend will provide a welcome reprieve for many Floridians, but frost concerns persist tonight. Stay updated with the latest alerts and take the necessary steps to protect your home and loved ones.
