Peoria, IL – A significant winter storm is expected to bring heavy snowfall to parts of central and west-central Illinois, as well as northeast Missouri, beginning Wednesday morning and lasting through late Wednesday night.

According to the National Weather Service, there is a 40 to 60 percent chance of at least 6 inches of snow northwest of I-55 in Illinois, with the highest accumulations expected near and northwest of the Illinois River. In Missouri, snow totals could range between 5 and 8 inches. The storm is likely to impact key cities including Peoria, Bloomington, Quincy, and Hannibal.

Travel conditions could become hazardous, particularly during the Wednesday evening commute. Officials urge residents to delay travel if possible and to prepare winter emergency kits, including blankets, flashlights, and extra clothing, in case of road emergencies.

The storm is expected to taper off late Wednesday night. Residents should monitor updates from the National Weather Service and local authorities for changing conditions.
