Champaign, IL – Residents across Illinois will face dangerously cold wind chills overnight Friday into Saturday morning, with temperatures as low as 0°F and wind chills dipping below -10°F. A weak system could bring light snow flurries along Interstate 72 early Saturday before conditions ease later in the day.
According to the National Weather Service, wind chill values will range from -8°F to -12°F through early Saturday, with winds gusting up to 25 mph. Residents should dress in layers and limit time outdoors to avoid frostbite. If traveling, monitor weather conditions and exercise caution on potentially slick roads.
Saturday’s high will reach 37°F in Champaign under mostly cloudy skies, marking the beginning of a gradual warming trend. By Sunday, temperatures are expected to climb into the upper 30s, with sunny skies and lighter winds creating more comfortable conditions.
The warmer weather continues into next week. Monday will bring highs near 39°F, while Tuesday could reach 43°F, offering relief from the recent cold snap. Overnight lows will remain cold, hovering in the mid-20s.
Drivers along I-72 should prepare for reduced visibility during flurries Saturday morning, though snowfall accumulations are expected to remain below 0.5 inches. Stay updated on local forecasts and allow extra time for travel during peak weather events.
With warmer temperatures on the horizon, Illinois residents can look forward to a more manageable start to the week. However, precautions remain necessary for Friday and Saturday’s frigid conditions.
