Springfield, IL – A winter storm is set to impact central Illinois on Wednesday, bringing accumulating snow and mixed precipitation, especially near and west of the I-55 corridor. Travel disruptions and hazardous road conditions are expected.

According to the National Weather Service in Central Illinois, snowfall will be heaviest near and west of I-55, where accumulations of 4 inches or more are likely. South of a Shelbyville-to-Danville line, mixed precipitation, including freezing rain, could create additional travel hazards.

The storm is expected to intensify throughout Wednesday, with the heaviest precipitation occurring in the afternoon and evening hours. Forecasters warn of slick roads and reduced visibility, particularly during the evening commute. Drivers are urged to allow extra time and use caution on untreated surfaces.

Officials recommend staying updated on forecast changes, as additional winter weather advisories or warnings may be issued. The system is expected to taper off overnight into Thursday.
