Indianapolis, IN – Light snow is forecast to sweep across central Indiana today, creating potentially hazardous travel conditions during the morning commute. Accumulations of up to an inch are expected, particularly north of Indianapolis, with gusty winds reducing visibility on roads, including I-65 and I-70.
According to the National Weather Service, snow began falling early Tuesday morning and is expected to taper off by mid-afternoon. Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time and exercise caution, especially on bridges and overpasses, where slick spots are most likely. Wind gusts of up to 30 mph could further complicate travel by blowing snow across roadways.
Temperatures will struggle to reach a high of 19 degrees, with wind chills making it feel as low as -3. Tonight, conditions will become even more frigid, with lows around -2 and wind chills dipping to -10 or lower. These sub-zero wind chills pose a risk of frostbite for exposed skin in under 30 minutes. Residents are urged to dress in layers and limit time outdoors.
Looking ahead, Wednesday will bring sunny skies but continued cold, with a high of 20 and wind chills remaining near zero. By Thursday, light rain and snow could develop, with temperatures rebounding to the upper 30s by Friday.
Travelers should remain vigilant today, keeping an emergency kit in vehicles and checking local road conditions before heading out. Updates and detailed forecasts are available at weather.gov/ind.
