Chicago, IL – Chicago Bears owner Virginia Halas McCaskey has died at 102, the team announced Thursday. The longtime owner, daughter of Bears founder George Halas, was the NFL’s longest-tenured owner.

According to the team, McCaskey led the Bears with passion and faith. “She guided the franchise for four decades, always putting the team and fans first,” her family said in a statement.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell called her “a matriarch of the league” and praised her lifelong dedication. “Faith, family, and football were her guiding principles,” Goodell said.

The football community mourned her passing, with teams and former players sharing tributes. The Raiders praised her leadership, and the Giants honored her commitment to the game.

McCaskey took over in 1983 after her father’s passing. She remained a strong voice in the league, ensuring the Bears upheld their legacy.
