Chicago, IL – Temperatures across Illinois plunged early Friday, with wind chills dipping as low as 10 degrees below zero in some areas. A brief chance of light snow or flurries is expected Friday night into Saturday morning, as cold conditions linger before a warming trend begins next week.
According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, Friday’s high will reach only 21°F, with gusty winds creating a wind chill near -8°F. Overnight lows are forecast to drop to 18°F, and a slight chance of snow (20–30%) could impact early Saturday morning. Drivers should monitor road conditions, especially near Lake Shore Drive, as light snow accumulation is possible.
Saturday will bring highs near 35°F and breezy southwest winds. Sunday looks sunny with highs near 27°F, but a more substantial warm-up will begin Monday, when temperatures rise to 38°F and continue climbing into the 40s by Tuesday.
The National Weather Service also issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for Friday, warning of excessive cold risks for parts of northern Illinois and northwest Indiana. Residents are urged to dress warmly and take precautions against frostbite during outdoor activities.
Despite the cold, dry conditions are expected to dominate the forecast after Saturday morning. By early next week, warmer temperatures and mostly sunny skies should bring some relief from winter’s icy grip.
