CHP in pursuit of driver for traffic violations

Officers with the California Highway Patrol are in pursuit of a motorist who was reportedly driving on the shoulder of the freeway.

Preliminary information suggests that officers first spotted the suspect on the shoulder of the 405 Freeway, though the chase later moved onto the southbound 101 Freeway.

The driver reportedly called authorities and said the brakes on the vehicle were not working, with CHP dispatch advising the motorist to stop accelerating the vehicle. The then reportedly told authorities that he had to pick his child up from daycare and hung up.

Aerial footage captured by Sky5 showed CHP attempt a PIT maneuver that briefly slowed the vehicle and ripped a portion of the bumper of the dark-colored sedan who continued to evade officer, driving in heaving traffic on the shoulder of the freeway.

The suspect got on the 170 Freeway and exited at Oxnard Street, where the driver weaved through traffic at the light and drove the car into the parking structure of the NoHo West shopping center.

This is the third pursuit in three hours in Southern California.
