Cold Front Persists in Kansas: Weekend Temperatures to Warm Slightly Along I-35 Corridor

Wichita, KS – Frigid conditions persist across Kansas Thursday, with temperatures struggling to rise above freezing. Residents are in for a break Friday as sunny skies and slightly warmer temperatures return to the region.

According to the National Weather Service, Thursday’s highs hover near 30°F, accompanied by slight chances of flurries early in the day. Lows are expected to dip to 16°F overnight, with calm winds offering little relief from the biting cold.

Friday promises sunny skies and daytime highs reaching 42°F, a welcome reprieve for those braving the chill. South winds at 5-10 mph will bring additional warmth to the area, though Friday night lows are forecast to return to the low 20s.

Heading into the weekend, Saturday offers partly sunny conditions, with highs ranging from 35°F to 45°F. Cooler north winds will dominate, leading to overnight lows near 23°F. By Sunday, temperatures climb slightly, hitting the upper 30s under mostly clear skies.

Residents should prepare for continued variability in the forecast, including potential gusty winds into next week. Motorists traveling along I-35 or local routes should remain alert for icy patches, especially during overnight hours when temperatures plummet.

Plan ahead for Monday and Tuesday as highs rise to 47°F and 51°F, respectively. Dry conditions and sunny skies dominate early next week, providing relief after an icy start to January.
