Little Rock, AR – Commuters across Arkansas are urged to exercise caution today as freezing temperatures leave roadways slick with refrozen ice. Drivers should be especially careful on major routes, including I-40 and local streets, during the morning hours.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Little Rock, icy conditions are expected to linger on roads where melted snow refroze overnight. With morning temperatures starting in the mid-30s, black ice may pose a hazard in shaded areas and on bridges. Drivers should clean snow off their vehicles, avoid using cruise control, and maintain extra distance between vehicles to prevent accidents.
The high temperature today is forecast to reach 39°F under sunny skies, with winds calming by the afternoon. Tonight, temperatures will drop to 21°F, creating another cold night. Tuesday will bring slightly warmer conditions, with a high of 46°F and calm winds from the southwest.
Looking ahead, sunny skies will dominate the week, with highs climbing to 51°F by Thursday. Rain chances increase on Friday, with a 50% likelihood of showers in the afternoon. Drivers should stay informed about road conditions and monitor weather updates to prepare for potential changes later this week.
The NWS advises residents to dress warmly, monitor forecasts daily, and drive cautiously on icy mornings. For the latest updates, visit weather.gov/lzk.
