Colorado – A dangerous cold front continues to grip the state, with wind chills as low as -50°F in some mountain areas and -25°F across the plains. These conditions bring a high risk of frostbite and hypothermia, especially for unprotected skin.

According to the National Weather Service in Denver/Boulder, a Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect until 9 a.m. Tuesday for the Denver metro area, as well as central, northeast, and eastern Colorado. Subzero temperatures, coupled with gusty winds, will create life-threatening conditions, with frostbite possible within 30 minutes of exposure.

Travel across key roadways, including Interstate 76 and sections of Interstate 70, may become hazardous due to ice and snow accumulation. Light snow is expected to taper off by mid-Monday morning, but roads may remain slick, particularly in higher elevation areas. Motorists are urged to use extreme caution and limit unnecessary travel.

The extended forecast offers some relief midweek. After subzero temperatures overnight Monday into Tuesday, highs will reach the low 40s by Thursday. Tuesday remains frigid, with morning lows near -6°F in Denver and a daytime high of just 15°F. Breezy conditions may persist, keeping wind chills near zero.

Residents are advised to check on vulnerable neighbors, ensure proper home heating, and avoid outdoor activity unless absolutely necessary. Layers, gloves, and hats are essential for anyone braving the cold. Portable heaters should be used with caution to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.
